For Generations To Come | Laila Portraits | Randolph Macon College in Ashland Virginia | Sarah Duke Photography |
November 04, 2018
I have had the privilege of photographing this little one now since the beginning of my photography business. What’s even more special is having known her mom for over ten years- having done everything from Marine Corps JROTC - to graduating high school together– to attending our first year of college together…Brittany has remained one of my lifelong friends, no matter how much time has passed. <3
I have jokingly mentioned to Brittany, “One of these days I am going to be photographing Laila’s senior portraits” and now I find myself smiling at the fact this may one day be a reality! It’s realizations like this that I cherish. These are the hidden rewards that go along with photography that are unmentionable at the very beginning – but very evident as the journey progresses.
I read a quote recently, “The Camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.” Credit, Dorothea Lange
Before photography, I don’t know if I really sought to admire the ordinary, present moments as much as I do now. Being able to partake in sessions like this one strike close to my heart because I realize I am capturing so much more than an image; instead I am documenting a progression of time –milestones worth observing.
